Narrative Therapy

Psychotherapy

What is Narrative Therapy?

Narrative therapy is a respectful client-centred approach to working with people. This method of therapy works to separate a person from their problem. It is beneficial for adults as well as children. A Narrative Therapist values the strengths of individuals rather than focusing on weaknesses and pathologies.

How does Narrative Therapy work?

In narrative therapy, problems do not define the person. It is based on the idea that people are not broken or defective and allowing them to separate themselves from the problem.

Often people have been seeing and living their lives through negative stories imposed on them. The belief that people have problems but are not the problem itself, opens up space to look at themselves in a new light. The aim is to guide individuals to externalize their issues and guide them through difficult times.

Narrative Therapists work with clients to co-create new stories that speak to their strengths and preferred ways of living.
