Acupuncture for Pregnancy

Acupuncture

Your body changes rapidly during pregnancy, and with each new trimester, there can be new challenges that can pop up along the way. Acupuncture for pregnancy can help with:

  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety
  • Back, hip and pelvic pain
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Edema
  • Heartburn
  • Hypertension and more
  • Breech or posterior-positioned babies
  • Preparing the body for labour and delivery

Labour Prep Acupuncture

We offer a supportive, natural labour preparation protocol to assist you through the latter phase of your pregnancy. Starting at 36 weeks and until the onset of labour, regular acupuncture treatments help support the body in preparation for birth. Studies show that acupuncture can:

  • Increase blood flow
  • Promote cervical ripening
  • Reduce the chances of intervention during labour
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Encourage overall relaxation

Labour Induction Acupuncture

Your due date has come and gone. Still, no contractions or labour isn’t progressing? We can help. Acupuncture is a safe, simple, and effective means of promoting cervical ripening and stimulating uterine contractions in delayed and prolonged labour.

Beginning at 40 weeks (or if a medical induction has been scheduled at 41 or 42 weeks), labour induction acupuncture can gently help your body transition into labour. Treatments are typically scheduled every other day to observe progression. We do recommend a preventative approach by starting the labour prep acupuncture protocol at week 37 to allow your body to gradually ease into labour and delivery. Home and hospital visits are available.

Postpartum Care

Congratulations! You’ve met your new bundle of joy and you are over the moon! In Chinese medicine, the month after delivery is called “Golden Month”, a time when you bond with your newborn and recover from pregnancy and childbirth.

Postpartum acupuncture and TCM aids in replenishing the body and to promote healing. This can be beneficial after all types of delivery, especially those suffering exhaustion or those who have endured difficult labour.

We can also support you through many postpartum challenges that may arise. Acupuncture and TCM can help with:

  • Postpartum insomnia
  • Depression
  • Night sweats
  • Uterine bleeding
  • Urinary difficulty
  • Breastfeeding concerns
  • Acute mastitis
  • Arthralgia
  • Bell’s Palsy
  • And more
