Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
Psychotherapy

What is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a type of therapy that assists in providing support for two elements at once. It combines the core principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy works to use thinking to change feelings. Whereas Mindfulness provides the acceptance of feelings and thoughts together.
DBT is a true combination of the “I am doing the best I can” with the “I need to do better”. DBT is particularly helpful for those who have difficulty regulating their emotions. This evidence-based therapy tool is helpful for adults and youth. Many have reported success by blending the acceptance strategies of Mindfulness with the change elements of CBT.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy supports:
- anxiety
- depression
- trauma
- borderline personality disorders
- emotional instability
- eating disorders
- substance abuse
